Junior Full Stack Developer
We are looking for a sharp developer to join our technical arm. This person will assist in maintaining and improving the Addis Ideas web application. NOTE: The responsibilities and skills listed for this position are not exhaustive and can change at any time.
Responsibilities
Deliver across the entire app life cycle: Concept, design, build, deploy, test, release to app stores and provide post-launch support
Collaborate with other developers to build new features and/or sunset old features
Keep up-to-date on the latest industry trends in mobile technologies
Strong ability to translate technical solutions in nontechnical terms and vice versa
Essential Skills
Demonstrated understanding of the full stack, from the user experience to the server
Ability to think through problems
Demonstrated understanding of JavaScript—knowledge of JS frameworks would be a plus
Knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar ORDBMS
Familiar with Git or similar versioning or revision control system
Excellent debugging and optimization skills
Previous startup experience would be considered a plus
Previous mobile development experience would be considered a plus
Demonstrated understanding of UI/UX

Field Research Director
We're looking for someone to lead our research and development arm. The Field Research Director will assist in conducting focus group research on our application's various iterations. This person will also be responsible for external outreach efforts in African communities. Finally, this person will be responsible for sourcing, recruiting, and managing a team of field researchers. NOTE: The responsibilities and skills listed for this position are not exhaustive and can change at any time.
Responsibilities
Part I — External Outreach and Relations
Map relevant stakeholders in each of our user segments, including but not limited to:
Segment 1 – Tech hubs, university circles, academic associations
Segment 2 – IGO’s, private business, and other development-oriented institutions
Segment 3 – Local advertises and marketers
Develop and manage contacts for aforementioned user segments and facilitate initial conversations
Work with Addis Ideas’ founders to forge and maintain partnerships with contacts
Part II — Research and Development
Assist in conducting focus group research on application’s various Iterations
Recruit focus group participants and assist in creating survey questions
Responsible for collecting data and presenting findings to founders
Essential Skills
Must be based in East Africa and/or have a deep working knowledge of the region
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with external relations and/or research
Availability to dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week
Ability to function on a geographically distributed team
Access to a large network in the African development space

Marketing Fellows
We're looking for creative people to join our marketing arm. Marketing Fellows will assist in the development of our social media campaigns, while maintaining the company's vision and brand. Fellows are also an integral part of our fundraising and outreach efforts. Undergraduate and graduate students in all majors are welcome to apply, though MBA students are preferred. Responsibilities
Develop social media campaigns that help users understand the functionality of Addis Ideas, while maintaining the company’s vision and brand
Spearhead fundraising efforts alongside other team members in our marketing arm
Attend bi-weekly team meetings and weekly marketing brainstorming sessions
Compose and manage press releases, blog posts, and newsletters
Deliver content on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and email
Ability to function on a geographically distributed team
